UK Club guidance on ship lay up
A properly laid up ship reduces P&I risks. Owners laying up a ship can apply for a partial return of P&I premium paid to the Club.
The documents displayed below provide the necessary advice and administrative forms for Members who need to place ships in lay up in respect of this policy. Simply click on any of the documents to display a pdf version which can be downloaded or saved to your computer.
A guidance note explains the Club’s policies on lay up. A special edition of Loss Prevention News produced in conjunction with BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys (incorporating the Salvage Association) recommends various lay-up arrangements in order to minimise P&I claims, including personal injury, wreck removal and pollution, particularly oil leakage, antifouling and other contamination of the local environment.
Forms to apply for returns from either UK Club (Bermuda) or UK Club (Europe) are also attached here.
Reference to lay up can also be found in the latest Club Rules under Rules 27 and 5(R).
