In a recent decision in the Southern District of New York the court held that the rail carrier (BNSF) could not apply the ocean carriers’ COGSA package limit of USD 500, with regard to an export shipment of goods that were damaged during inland rail transit before the goods arrived at the ship.

This report gives, where possible, specific advice passed to us in respect of the individual wharves & terminals in these locations. A number of ports have been designated for aid & emergency cargoes only.

A Japan ports map listing contact numbers for all the major ports is also listed.

The ports of Chiba, Kashima, Onahama and Sendai have reported damage and interruption to a number of their terminals. Latest report including individual details on terminal damage and/or interruption is set out below.

Radioactive material from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant is gradually spreading outside Japan into the global atmosphere but at extremely low concentrations that do not present health or transportation safety hazards, according to the United Nations organizations closely monitoring the situation. Japanese authorities confirm that all airports in the country, with the exception of Sendai which was affected by the tsunami of 11 March, continue to operate normally for both international and domestic operations. Continuous monitoring around these airports confirms that radiation levels are well within safe limits from a health perspective.

At Kashima Oil, inspection of berth COP No. 2 and No. 3 completed. Ocean going tanker is scheduled to arrive on 18th April.
