1037 - 05/15 - Stores List Declaration Update - Argentina
The Association has been advised of some further issues regarding customs declarations in Argentina.
Further to our Bulletin 949 issued on 7th March 2014, we have been informed that failing to declare “used lub-oil” might be considered an infringement of Argentine customs code.
We have consulted with a local lawyer, who is an expert in customs matters. His opinion is that even though used items should not be generally declared in the ship’s stores list, in order to avoid problems with Argentine Customs, “used lub-oil” should be declared.
As mentioned in our previous bulletin, sump tank oil should also be declared. Problems have arisen due to the fact the measurement of the lub-oil in the sumps depends on whether the equipment is in service or not, i.e. with the main engine running the lub oil in the sump tank will be less than when the main engine is stopped. Therefore we would recommend to state in the store list whether the measurement was carried out with the equipment in operation or stopped.
Should you require any further clarification please contact the Association or the Club’s correspondent in Argentina for advice.
