940 - 02/14 - Power outage at Richards Bay - South Africa
The Club has been advised that there has been a serious power outage in the port of Richards Bay, causing delays to vessels.
The power outage is causing serious delays to vessels and is especially affecting vessels waiting to load coal at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT).
There are currently over 25 ships at the anchorage and that number continues to rise as a result of the power outage. It is likely that the terminal or shippers will seek to declare force majeure as demurrage claims arise.
The issue is reported to be caused by faults on aging power cables and authorities hope to resolve the power issues by Sunday 9th February.
