SF Claims Team attends the West Coast Admiralty Law Reception at the St. Francis Yacht Club
- Date: 30/03/2012
Invited by the local correspondent firm Emard, Danoff, Port, Tamulski & Paetzold, the Thomas Miller San Francisco Office Claims Team (Louise Livingston, Kimberlee Baxter, Debbie Bronis, Markus McMillin, George Radu and Linda Wright) had the pleasure of attending the 2012 West Coast Admiralty Law Reception at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco on Friday 23 March 2012. Commonly referred to as the Phil Berns Dinner, the origins of the event date back to the early 1980's when United States Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney Phil Berns thought it would be fun to have a post-holiday party for people involved in the maritime industry. Phil has since retired from the DOJ, but the tradition has carried on (although the event was pushed back this year due to ongoing DOJ litigation involving the Deepwater Horizon). The 150 or so turnout included lawyers, claims people, surveyors and others in the maritime field primarily from the West Coast of North America (all the way from Vancouver, Canada to San Diego, California), but some came from as far away as New York, Virginia and Hawaii.
It was a beautiful night and with the St. Francis Yacht Club perched on the edge of the San Francisco Bay, the views of the Golden Gate Bridge were quite spectacular. A good time was had by all, with the die-hards ending up at Kennedy's Irish Pub & Curry House in North Beach for what has become an annual post-gathering pool tournament. The Canadians won yet again -- their fourth year out of the last five. The States will get them next year!
