MPA PORT MARINE NOTICE NO. 116 OF 2010 – VESSELS DRAGGING ANCHORS DUE TO GUSTY WINDS
On 20 September 2010, in view of reports of vessels dragging their anchors due to gusty winds with widespread showers arising from inter-monsoon disturbance over Singapore and the surrounding region, the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore issued Port Marine Notice (PMN) No. 116 of 2010.
The Notice appeals to shipmasters and persons in charge of vessels at anchor in port to maintain a continuous navigational watch and to be prepared for a sudden onset of gusty winds during a thunderstorm.
The preparations should include putting the ships’ engine on standby and paying out more cables if necessary in the prevailing circumstances.
