World Shipping (China) Summit in Shanghai

The 2nd World Shipping (China) Summit was held in Shanghai between 31st October and 2nd November 2005. The largest shipping conference in China to date attracted 650 delegates, including the senior managers of Cosco, the principal sponsors and senior representatives of the major Japanese shipping companies. The Summit was opened by Capt Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of Cosco and the Minister of Communications, Zhang Chunxiang as well as the Mayor of Shanghai. Robert Maundell, Nobel Laureate in Economics gave the keynote address.

Koji Miyahara, President of NYK, Akimitsu Ashida, President of MOL and Yasuhide Sakinaga, Chairman of K Line, CC Tung, Chairman of OOCL and Xu Lirong, Executive Vice President of Cosco Holdings each gave presentations as did Lin Jianqing, Vice President, China Shipping Group, Knud Pontoppidan, Executive Vice President of Maersk (and President of BIMCO), Lin Sun-San, Vice Chairman of Evergreen, Erck Rickmers of Nordcapital and Fredrick Tsao, Chairman of IMC. Ma Zehua, Executive Vice President of Cosco Group and a Director of the UK Club chaired sessions as did Yang Bing, former UK Club Director and President of Cosco Europe.

Attendees included Xiong Wei, Deputy Director of the MOC, Chris Horrocks of ICS, Stephen Van Dyck and Peter Swift of Intertanko, Nick Pappadakis and Roger Holt of Intercargo and a wide range of owners and Chinese charterering organisations including representatives of PetroChina, Haier Group, Baosteel and China Coal. The Summit was principally organised by Yang Sicheng, Deputy Director of Cosco R&D.
