National Taiwan Ocean University Conference on Maritime Affairs

The National Taiwan Ocean University held an International Conference on Marine Affairs and a Maritime Education and Training Forum at Keelung on 25th November 2005.

The Conference was opened by the President of the University, Prof Robert Hwang and by the Dean, Professor Cherng-Yuan Lin. It was organised by Dr Solomon Chen, and heard papers from Prof Dr Kinzo Inoue of Kobe University Faculty of Maritime Science, Dr Devinder Grewal of the Australian Maritime College, Dr Hisashi Yamamoto, Secretary, International Association of Maritime Universities, Capt LM Chern of Evergreen and Taiwan Association of Maritime Safety and Security, Dr Kuang-Hsiung Wang, Dr Hua-An Lu, James Cheng, Prof Tai-Shen Lee, Dr Capt Bin Lin, Capt John S-Y Chang, Chien-Hsing Wu and Dr Tan-Zen Su of NTOU, Dr Kirk Wu of National Kaoshiung Marine University, Dr Ted Lirn of National Penghu University and Capt Kuo Chang-Ling of the Master Mariners' Association, ROC.

Those attending included Prof Detlef Nielsen and Capt Dennis Parsons of the Australian Institute of Shipping and Transport Logistics, Jack Yao, Commander, Taiwan Coastguard, Chien-Yu Cheng of Kaoshiung Harbour Bureau, Jeff Chang of Safesea Maritime Co, Jason Huang of Elite Insurance Services, Adelaide Yang of Taiwan Transport Insurance Services and Tai-Yuan Jung of Round-the-World Logistics. Herry Lawford gave a paper on 'Recent Developments in the Criminalisation of Maritime Accidents'.
