ITOPF / INTERTANKO / OCIMF International Seminar in Shanghai

A joint ITOPF, INTERTANKO and OCIMF seminar was held in Shanghai on 8th December 2005. The seminar addressed tanker safety issues, highlighting opportunities for preventing pollution from ships, and recommending procedures for dealing with pollution incidents in an effective manner. The seminar was aimed at both government and industry representatives and discussed tanker safety and pollution prevention, liability and compensation, spill response management and post-spill studies.
Speakers included Stephen van Dyck, Chairman of Intertanko, Jan Koperniki, Chairman of OCIMF (and UK Club Director), Helmut Sohmen, Chairman of ITOPF and Mans Jacobsson, Director of IOPC Funds. Dr Tosh Moller and Dr Karen Purnell of ITOPF, Paul Markides of OCIMF and Dr Peter Swift of Intertanko. Strong Chinese support was given by Prof Liu Hong, China Academy of Transportation Sciences, Sun Qinghe of Shandong Maritime Centre of Judicial Authentication and Professor Shen Xinqiang of East Sea China Fisheries Research Institute, Zhang Xiaodong of Shanghai MSA and Chen Keyu of China Marine Services. Nigel Carden of the UK Club attended the ITOPF Board Meeting which preceded the seminar.
