On 16th February 2006, the UK Club launched a set of dangerous goods guides in a package entitled Book it right and pack it tight. Karl Lumbers, the Club's Loss Prevention director, explained the background to the project, emphasising the growth in the transport of hazardous cargoes and the shift in manufacturing to China and India against a significant number of major fires and explosions on ships as the result of poor packing, inadequate segregation and securing of cargoes in containers, inadequate or misleading labelling and placarding - and sometimes complete failure to declare a cargoes' hazardous properties. The Guides are being supplied to the Club's container operator Members and all others who could benefit from them and a series of seminars are planned in key maritime centres around the world.

Among those attending the launch included Club Member Dirk Van Der Velde, Global Manager, MSC Chemical Transports, Dick Masters, the author of the guides, Cliff Mullins of Minton, Treharne and Davis and chairman of the Club's Carefully to Carry Dangerous Goods Sub-Committee, Ken Burgess of Exis Technologies (who have created the Hazcheck on-line systems to which the Club is giving a year's free access with the guides), Philip Wake of the Nautical Institute, Nick Andrews of Royal / Sun Alliance (representing cargo underwriters), Clare Hall of Marisec / International Chamber of Shipping and journalists Michael Grey of Lloyd's List, Jim Mulrenan of Tradewinds, Peter Mackay of Hazardous Cargo Bulletin, Frances Huggett of Fairplay and Claire Walsh of Seaways.
