UK Club Cruise Conference in Lisbon

The Club’s biennial conference for cruise ship Members was held in Lisbon between the 17th and 19th May 2006. Representatives from the majority of the Club's Cruise Members attended to discuss a range of issues including;

· Athens Convention,
· damages in the EU,
· the Americans with Disabilities Act,
· avian flu,
· the criminalisation of MARPOL violations and maritime accidents,
· harassment,
· handling the media in the event of a major casualty,
· dispute resolution of crew claims in the Philippines,
· the lessons learned following a major shore excursion air disaster,
· the ILO Labour Convention,
· piracy
· crime reporting
· and a number of recent U.S. decisions affecting the industry.
    A number of presentations were given by our Members, including Mary Sloan of Carnival Corporation, Mona Ehrenreich of Princess Cruises/Cunard, Vince Warger of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Chris Arundel of Holland America Line, Bob Kirk of Carnival Cruise Lines and Joe Valenti of Crystal Cruises. External speakers included Michael Chalos of Fowler Rodriguez & Chalos, Larry Kaye of Kaye Rose & Partners, Ann Miller of Nixon Peabody, Ben Abraham of Willis and Pat Adamson of MTI Media Consultants.

    Miller staff contributing in this conference included Phil Nichols, John Turner, Julian South, Martin Turner, Ursula Elsden, Louise Livingston and Hugo Wynn-Williams.
