NLV Pole Star and NLV Pharos

Bell Rock Lighthouse, established in 1811
The Commissioners of the Northern Lighthouse Board of Scotland held a reception in Dover House, Whitehall, London on 28th June 2006 to mark the two-hundredth anniversary of Parliamentary approval of the building of Bell Rock Lighthouse. The lighthouse, which is situated 12 miles off the East coast of Scotland, is the oldest rock lighthouse in the British Isles. There is a dedicated website www.bellrock.org.uk
The Northern Lighthouse Board is responsible for lights and lighthouses around the coast of Scotland and the Isle of Man. Although the Board is quite separate from Trinity House (for England and Wales) and the Commission for Irish Lights, all three organisations work closely together. The Northern Lighthouse Board has a staff of 281 and operates two ships. The Board is controlled by Commissioners, one of whom is Robert Quayle (Director of IPIR). The website is www.nlb.org.uk
Karl Lumbers and John McPhail represented the Club at the reception.
