Katrina on fire

On 24th July 2007 a fire broke out on the inter-island ferry the KATRINA with twenty passengers and crew onboard. Smoke from the ferry caught the attention of the third officer of the FEDERAL RHINE, a UK Club entered ship which was on a voyage from west coast of Australia to China.

The Master of the FEDERAL RHINE proceeded to the scene and established contact with other vessels in the vicinity and the Marine Rescue Coordination centre in Manila.

The FEDERAL RHINE and the MT ELBA rescued sixteen people from the water. Four people remained onboard the KATRINA and managed to bring the fire under control.
