THOMAS MILLER'S PARTICIPATION IN THE 24 PEAK CHALLENGE
Over the weekend of 19th and 20th July, six intrepid explorers and 1 valued driver (Peter Jackson of Thomas Miller Claims Managment - the "daddy" for the weekend), under took what is described as "the most demanding mountain event ever organised as a charity challenge" to raise money for Seafarers UK.
All 24 Peaks are over 2,400 feet and the team encountered rain, wind, hail and visibility of about 25 metres. The challenge on Day 1 was to cover 10 of the 24 mountains, which aside from the weather conditions, was certainly the hardest and most testing part of the 2 day event. Starting at Red Pike at 05:50 hrs the team assailed peaks which include Scafell Pike, England's tallest mountain and finished at 21:28 hrs - a time of 15 hrs 18 mins.
Due to injuries, only Marc Duck, Martin Turner, Richard Offord and Tony Nicholson started the first ascent on Day 2 at five a.m. when a total of 14 peaks were to be covered Just Richard Offord and Tony Nicholson made the finish with a time of 10:09:24.
Only 6 of the 14 teams entered managed to complete the course in under 24 hrs. Well done to Richard Offord, who on behalf of the team completed the challenge and our thanks also go to Jon Aronson of Rodriguez, Aronson, Essington & Ross, Miami, who flew over to participate.
