Thomas Miller has announced three senior management changes in its continuing programme of service development to support the transport mutuals it manages.
John Morris, leader of the management team of Thomas Miller Defence Limited, will be the new Chairman and Regional Director of Thomas Miller (Asia Pacific) Ltd. Christopher Brown, Regional Director, Thomas Miller (Asia Pacific) Ltd, based in Hong Kong, is returning to London as Claims Director for Thomas Miller P&I Limited. Daniel Evans, currently Deputy Manager of the Thomas Miller Defence Limited, will take over John Morris' role at Thomas Miller Defence.
The appointments will come into effect at the beginning of April.
John Morris will relocate to Hong Kong to become the new Chairman and Regional Director of Thomas Miller (Asia Pacific) Ltd. In this newly combined role, John will aim to develop further the company's business relationships and service standards in the Asia Pacific region on behalf of the Thomas Miller-managed transport clubs.
A qualified barrister, Mr. Morris' 30-year career in the shipping industry and in P&I insurance has always had an Asia Pacific focus. After several years as in-house counsel at Furness Withy, part of Orient Overseas Holdings, he joined Thomas Miller in 1987. He worked originally in P&I, supporting the Club's worldwide membership, moving to Senior Claims Director for defence claims in 1994. As leader of the Thomas Miller Defence management team for the past nine years, he has guided a strategy aimed at increasing Asia Pacific membership.
Christopher Brown will have overall responsibility for the delivery of claims service and standards to all the UK P&I Club members. As a member of the P&I senior management team, he will work closely with Graham Daines, Claims Technical Director, who has responsibility for oversight of all major claims.
Mr. Brown trained as an economist, has practised commercial law and has more than 20 years' insurance and marine claims experience. He has lived and worked in North America, Scandinavia and Asia. He joined Thomas Miller in London in 2001 and spent a year there before transferring to Hong Kong. He has been Regional Director of Thomas Miller (Asia Pacific) for five years.
Daniel Evans has been Deputy Manager of the Thomas Miller Defence management team for the past four years. He is qualified as a solicitor in New Zealand and in the UK. He joined Thomas Miller in 1992 and worked initially for the UK Club's Australasian, Russian and Middle Eastern Members before working principally with the Club's Greek Membership. From 1998-2002, he headed up the Thomas Miller Hellas office in Piraeus.
Hugo Wynn-Williams, Chief Executive of Thomas Miller P&I, explained: "These changes, which have been planned for some time, present exciting opportunities for the individuals concerned and have been designed to refresh and strengthen the service to all our clients."
