Happy Thanksgiving

We would like to wish a happy thanksgiving to all our American Members, colleagues, correspondents and friends.

The UK Club's relationship with ship operators in the United States extends back for almost a century with many long standing and loyal members there. Some thirty Members currently contribute nearly 500 ships totalling 12.5 million gross tons. Our US charterer Members also contribute a significant number of entries during the course of the year. Our American Members' fleet represents the full range of trades from cruise ships to support craft.

In recognition of the importance of this geographical sector of our membership, the Club has two Directors on its Board from the United States - Mr Mike Carthew, President of Chevron Shipping Company LLC and Mr Myles Itkin, Senior Vice President and CFO of Overseas Shipholding Group.

Thomas Miller Americas (TMA) led by President and CEO Mike Jarrett has offices in New Jersey and San Francisco. His team serves both American Members and other Members with incidents occurring locally. They are fully integrated into the Club's service network with global paperless claims files, IT systems, loss prevention support and claims and guarantee authority.

One of Thomas Miller Americas' priorities is ensuring that both our Members and the Club obtain maximum value from suppliers of legal and other services. Claims handling practices include an early case assessment with the TMA team together with the Member and their attorney to establish strategic budgeting of all major claims.

Fifty-seven per cent of our Club's personal injury claims over $100,000 are processed through American courts. TMA provides a specialist team of executives to deal with these demanding cases on Members' behalf. They meet regularly to review all significant injury and illness claims and regularly publishes loss prevention and other material on this complex onerous source of exposure.
