Tenth anniversary in the Lion City

On 21st May, the Club's office in Singapore celebrated its tenth anniversary with a reception at the Singapore Art House. We were privileged to receive Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, the Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport as the guest of honour.

The UK Club has enjoyed a relationship with the Singapore maritime community for a much longer period. Our Board has continuously included a Director from Singapore for nearly thirty years. The latest representative to the Board is Dr. Thomas Held, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Neptune Orient Line.

There are currently six UK Club Members operating from Singapore who contribute one and a half million gross tons of owned ships as well as a very substantial volume of time charter entries.

The Club's Singapore office, Thomas Miller (South East Asia) Pte. Ltd., supports those Members based throughout the region as well as those visiting this key centre of international trade. The office is headed by general manager Colin Fordham with specialist P&I expertise being provided by YS Ng and Kenneth Lie.

From one person at the outset, the office's capability to service members and to project the presence of the Club, has grown commensurately. It is one of only two clubs licensed to underwrite in Singapore. The Club office recently moved to a larger, more central location at the Robinson Centre, Robinson Road in February.

In addition, the Club continues to maintain its relationship with a local correspondent office, Spica Services Pte Ltd. Contact details for Spica can be found online using the List of Correspondents "Quicklink" at the head of any page of the website, or by referring to the hard copy published in combination with the Club Rules.

The underwriters for Singapore are Paul Pelling and Nigel Long.
