On course
The 2008 Insight into Transport Law and Insurance Course was held at the Andaz Hotel in the City of London this week.
The intensive course emphasised practical applications by covering a range of P&I, legal, shipping and transport subjects through case study and discussion.
An overview of the key transport insurances and the marine market opened the course, including a guided visit to the Lloyds market. The course then moved on to deal with issues involving liability and claims management in different technical areas including personal injury, pollution, collision and cargo.
The course lecturers were drawn from across the Thomas Miller managed transport clubs - UK P&I, UK Defence, TT Club and ITIC as well as external experts where appropriate. Comprehensive course material is provided as a reference to ensure maximum benefit from subsequent study and review.
The thirty-two participants were able to tailor their course by choosing from streams aimed at maritime or general transport operations to obtain the maximum practical knowledge. They represented a broad range of companies and technical backgrounds ranging from experienced legal and risk managers to trainees starting out on a transport career.
The course programme concludes this evening with a dinner at the London headquarters of the Royal Naval Reserve - HMS President.
