Bulletin 699 - 6/2010
Adoption of MARPOL Annex VI Amendments - North Sea/Baltic

The Association would like to remind members that amendments to MARPOL Annex VI concerning the prevention of air pollution from ships will come into force on 1st July 2010.

The amendments, adopted through the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), stipulate that the sulphur content of any fuel used in the Baltic and North Sea Emission Control Areas (ECA’s) shall not exceed 1.00%.
These amendments are the latest in a line of reductions with the next reduction to 0.1% set for 2015. In light of the changes, the Club has established a resource page that can be accessed through the link below. This page is designed to collate available information from a range of sources.

Members should make themselves aware of the requirements of these amendments and ensure that they have sufficient fuel available if they are planning to trade in these areas. Crew’s should be fully trained and familiar with all relevant change-over procedures.
