Shanghai 20 October 2006

On Monday the 23rd October over 80 Members of the UK Club, TT Club and the Chemical Distribution Institute attended a seminar at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Shanghai. The seminar on the Carriage of Dangerous Cargoes was a follow up to a successful seminar held by the TT Club in 2005.

The audience consisting of ship owners, freight forwarders and port and terminal operators explored the reasons why dangerous cargoes were being shipped out of the Chinese area either mis or non declared.

Over the last few years the marine industry has seen a marked increase in hazardous cargo related container incidents, causing direct and indirect financial losses to both shippers and carriers. In almost all these cases it would seem there has been either a lack of understanding, deliberate avoidance or at least insufficient compliance with the requirements of the IMDG Code.
