Measurement of bulk cargoes - draught surveys July 2008
A Carefully to Carry Committee publication explaining draught survey theory and practice to make clear the limitations of draught surveying, and best practice methods. This publication will prove useful to those in the industry requiring an understanding of draught surveys, and will also help those aboard ship understand what exactly the draught surveyor should be doing.

Nontank Vessel Response Plan - USA June 2008
Members trading ships to and from the US will be interested in a new Coast Guard requirement for nontank ships to submit a response plan. Operators of tankers trading to US waters will already be familiar with the requirement to lodge an oil spill response plan with the US Coast Guard.

Severe Floods Affecting Ports - China June 2008
Heavy rain and flood water in South China have affected water transport on the Pearl River. Members are advised to check with their local agents if calling to ports in the upper reaches of the Pearl River, and also to pay special attention to the origin and condition of any containers or cargo loaded in the region.

Anti-piracy dummies June 2008
A Club ship inspector was once approaching a ship and thought that crew were watching him from the railings. On closer inspection he found anti-piracy dummies erected by the boatswain. The images show well constructed dummies that may assist in the prevention of piracy incidents.

Quick release for anchor cable, bitter end June 2008
The latest Technical Bulletin from the ship inspection team considers the design of the quick release mechanism and common problems observed during ship visits. Inspectors are visiting many vessels where the design of the anchor cable bitter end attachment could be considered to be unsafe.
