NYK Dangerous Goods Seminar

On the 30th October the Club was invited to speak at a Dangerous Goods Seminar held by NYK in Shanghai. The seminar attended by over 60 representatives from all over the Asia area including several Corporate Officers was held to enforce NYK's Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Sea Campaign aimed at the promotion of safety in respect of incidents arising from misdeclaration and non declaration of hazardous cargoes.

Strong speeches from the different parts of the area re inforced the Club's worry that incidents such as the Hyundai Fortune/Hanjin Pennslyvannia could easily occur again. Following on from a series of seminars in the area it is clear from talking to those involved that there is considerable concern about what is being shipped undeclared/misdeclared from the area, which leaves shipowners and seafarers seriously exposed.
