Obituary – Cliff Mullins
We regret to announce the death on Tuesday 25th May of Cliff Mullins, chairman of cargo experts Minton, Treharne and Davies Ltd.
Cliff was a very active member of the Club’s Carefully to Carry committee producing many detailed and expert papers advising on the safe carriage of various cargoes.
His special area of expertise was the problems associated with the carriage of coal, such as methane explosions and spontaneous heating and he frequently advised upon contamination and corrosion.
Cliff also worked on problems related to other bulk cargoes, such as metal sulphide concentrates, direct reduced iron, scrap and metal turnings, and steel products, and advising on toxic gasses and asphyxiation hazards.
A chemistry graduate from the University of Wales (1952) he was a Fellow of both the Institute of Fire Engineers and the Institute of Fuel, he served the maritime industry for over fifty years including such high-profile cases as the Torrey Canyon, Queen Elizabeth and Haven
Cliff’s encyclopaedic knowledge and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
Cliff's funeral is on Friday 4th June at Thornhill Crematorium, Cardiff at 15:30.
