Athens Board Meeting

This week, our Board held their spring meeting on Thursday, May 8th at the Grande Bretagne Hotel in Athens. The Club business usually considered at this meeting includes the financial results for the previous financial year.

There were two decisions required: closure of the 2005 policy year, and approval of the financial statements for the year ending 20th February 2008.

The Directors decided to close the 2005 year with no supplementary premium required.

The 2006 and 2007 policy years were also reviewed and no supplementary premium is anticipated for these years.

A circular will be issued next week updating Members formally on the development of the open policy years. It will also be published in the Circulars section of this website.

A special booklet "Financial Highlights 2008", which gives the details of the year end financial statements is also being prepared for publication next week. This will also be available on the website together with a report on the key items discussed at this Board meeting next week.

On Friday 9th May, we are holding a forum in the neighbouring King George Palace Hotel entitled "Life at Sea - tackling future crewing challenges".

Chaired by Chris Horrocks, the former secretary general of the International Chamber of Shipping, this forum of distinguished international speakers will address issues of supply and training; standards and competence; experience and length of service; welfare, industrial relations and the impact of legislation. A special page on this website provides access to the event programme.

Mr Nicos Efthimiou, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, will open the presentations. We are anticipating a substantial and notable audience judging by the enthusiastic response of Members and other local ship operators to invitations.

Public holiday in Hong Kong - 12th May
Please note that there will be public holiday in Hong Kong on Monday, 12th May 2008 and the office will be closed. Normal operation will resume on Tuesday, 13th May.
