I have been a member of the Thomas Miller Group Finance Department for nearly seven years. My role has always been focused on finance software systems
No two days are the same and this variety is an aspect of my role I really enjoy. Most days are a mixture of managing projects large and small, supporting finance users and driving forward finance system process improvements. I have a small team that I mentor and a wider team who do not report to me but assist in the support of both the Sun finance system and the Geac expense system.
When I joined Thomas Miller the insurance industry was new to me but my role has taught me a basic understanding of insurance accounting. Thomas Miller provided the opportunity to move forward professionally and I was delighted to be promoted to Director in 2008. The main thing to mention about Thomas Miller though is the people. There is something about my colleagues that gives Thomas Miller its character and in my opinion, it’s all good.
Although I have been involved in many small pieces of work most people at Thomas Miller know of me because I was project manager for the introduction of the Geac expense system. This was a great way for me to get to know people outside of the Finance Department. The most recent project I have managed has been an upgrade to our finance systems. This presented its challenges. It was not easy bringing all the different clubs and businesses onto common and consistent systems but with the assistance of all finance we achieved our goal. The benefit of this is that we are now placed in an excellent position to improve processes further and I truly believe this can only make life better for my colleagues.
