The Future of Maritime Professionals Seminar

The UK P&I Club is supporting a seminar hosted by the London Branch of the Nautical Institute in Bristol on 20th and 21st April. The theme of the seminar will be: “The Future of Maritime Professionals.”

Regulations, enforcement of Conventions, technology, connectivity, social isolation and mental health all have an effect on today’s seafarer and the seminar will focus on these topics and how they affect the future of maritime professionals.

The seminar will look at:

  • SMS – is it a straitjacket intended to be followed in every circumstance? What is the relationship of ISM/SMS and other regulatory/Convention inspection regimes? Is there regulatory overload for the seafarer?
  • The impact on the seafarer of developments in shipboard technology – what training is required? Is increasing automation giving seafarers less control? and how will this affect the seafarer?.
  • The importance of social media and connectivity with their families.
  • Mental health of seafarers is a rising problem – what help is available? Should ships’ officers be trained in recognising mental health issues and what can they do in practice?

Listen and learn from a mix of speakers; engage in substantive discussion forums and network with an excellent cross section of senior managers and sea staff, training specialists, naval officers, lawyers, surveyors, insurers, and other professionals.
