The countdown is on and excitement grows as International Shipping week draws ever closer, a week that is firmly in the diary of all those related to the industry.
Monday 11th September will mark the beginning of 2017’s instalment, held in London. The week will consist of a number of interesting seminars, meetings and events laid on by a range of different companies. It’s the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge, debate hot topics and network with likeminded individuals.
Glancing down the list of events and seminars taking place this year there appears to be a bit of theme … technology / cyber. With our ever evolving business and technological advances moving at the pace they are, there is much to discuss in terms of the new risks we may be exposed to, liabilities our members may face that did not exist before and health issues that may not have been previously considered. It will be interesting to see if the same conclusions are drawn upon by the different companies presenting and if anything larger comes from these thought tanks which may impact the industry as a whole.
With autonomous vessels on the horizon, a new age of techno savvy workers and cyber risks regularly threatening business’ it is important that we clue ourselves up on these topics and find a way to evolve alongside them. The future is not all that far away and we will have to wait and see what it has in store for the shipping industry.

The UK Club is also hosting its own event during the week – Risk Ahoy! The two hour event on Tuesday is presented by the UK Club’s Loss Prevention department and addresses a new way of looking and learning about risks.
