150 years ago, the idea of mutual protection to support shipowners was just emerging, yet the ideal of mutuality behind the UK P&I Club has remained constant, weathering periods of profound economic and political change.
In the beginning, it was mainly British shipowners in the Club, but today we are a truly global organisation, with Members from over 50 countries and offices around the globe. Our anniversary celebrations also underscore the Club’s worldwide focus, with celebrations planned around the world. It gives me great pleasure to be part of such an established organisation as the UK P&I Club, of which I have the honour to be the present Chairman.
My special thanks go to my fellow Directors for the time they give to Club affairs and to the Managers for all their hard work in ensuring the UK Club endures. After all, these are the qualities that have made the UK Club so successful for 150 years, and I firmly believe they will continue to be in the future.
