米国に寄港する船舶は、USCG承認済みバラスト水処理設備搭載を求められている期日前であれば、従来のバラスト水交換方法でバラスト水を処理することができます。ただし、特にカリフォルニアでは、要件に従って適切な交換を行わない場合、罰金を課されることがあります。詳細については添付のリーガル・アップデートをご覧ください。Vessels calling in the United States can still use exchanges to treat ballast water prior to their respective deadlines for installing a USCG type-approved treatment system. However, failure to properly conduct exchanges can lead to substantial penalties, especially in California.
