The Club would like to draw Members’ attention to the update below from the Club’s Correspondents in Australia.

Please also refer to AMSA's Marine Notice 05/2022 which provides additional information on the FIC.

AMSA encourages ship owners and masters to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), Australian Marine Orders 11 and 28 and their respective safety management system, including how they are implemented onboard.

RE: UPDATE FOR AUSTRALIA IN RELATION TO FOCUSED INSPECTION CAMPAIGN TO BE CONDUCTED BY THE AUSTRALIAN MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY ("AMSA") DURING MAY AND JUNE 2022

AMSA has just issued a Marine Notice that shipowners, operators and masters should be aware that AMSA will be conducting a focused inspection campaign concentrating on hours of work and rest on foreign flagged ships and regulated Australian vessels arriving at Australian ports.

The campaign will be undertaken in conjunction with normal port or flag state control inspections and during the inspections the inspectors will complete a checklist.

The purpose of the focused inspection campaign is to determine the level of compliance with the maximum hours of work or minimum hours of rest for seafarers in accordance with the requirements of international conventions as well as the familiarity of the master and officers with implementing those provisions.
