1040 - 05/15 - Vessels delayed as a result of closing Parana River main channel - Argentina

UPDATE: On 22nd May after publication, a third grounding has occured in the Parana River, causing even further delays to vessels in the area.

The Association has been advised that following a grounding of a vessel the main channel of the Parana River has been closed, causing delays to the vessels in the area.

It has been reported that this is the second incident of a ship going aground on the main route to Rosario in just over a week.

A dry spell in Brazil has been identified as the cause for the water level being reduced by 2 feet below the May average, to the lowest since 2009.

Unfortunately this coincides with the time when the majority of the crop is being shipped.

Union strikes by workers in Rosario are further exacerbating the situation.
