927 - 11/13 - California Delays Implementation for Ballast Water Treatment Systems - USA

The Californian State Lands Commission (SLC) has announced that implementation of ballast water performance standards will be delayed for two years.

 

The letter, issued last month, explains that Senate Bill 814 recently became law. The Bill contains provisions which effectively delay the implementation of California’s strict performance standards for Ballast Water Treatment Systems, which were due to go into effect at the beginning of 2014

 

The standards are now due to be implemented in 2016.

 

The action was taken due to lack of available treatment technologies that meet the California standards.
