Alert to Members passing Egypt & Congo
Two loss prevention bulletins issued this week highlight potential problems for Members whose ships may be in the vicinity of the Suez Canal or the Congolese port of Pointe Noire.
The recent political unrest in Eqypt has led to a state of emergency being declared for the next thirty days. Troops have deployed in Suez and Port Said and a curfew imposed from 2100 through to 0600. Road transportation is currently deemed unsafe affecting many local agency activities such as crew changes and transfers, cash and cargo deliveries -
In Pointe Noire, Congo many berths and part of the harbour are contaminated by oil from a pipeline being breached during dredging operations. The
gives more detail of the problem and advice to Members on preserving rights when ships hulls become contaminated by contact with the slick in this port.
