Loss Prevention seminar- Singapore
The UK P&I held its annual Loss prevention seminar for Members on the 3rd of May on a range of topics, including Bunker spills, enclosed space casualties and recent claims regarding damage to fish farms. The seminar was well attended with over a hundred Members and guests from the Singapore maritime community.The Seminar was chaired by Andrew Jones, Chief Executive Officer (Asia Pacific), who reiterated the Club’s commitment to Loss prevention and the service to our Members. Following Andrew, the Club’s Loss prevention Director Stuart Edmonston explained the various loss prevention campaigns and initiatives taken place over the past year as well as discussing future developments. Of particular note was the recently released Maritime intelligence portal and the link up with with the lessons learnt project that the Club is working on.
Following the talks, three case studies were discussed. Senior Loss prevention advisor Anuj Velankar spoke about “Enclosed space casualties” and the unacceptable toll that these accidents cause on seafarers. Stuart Edmonston provided a case study on the causes of bunker spills. Finally, Claims and loss prevention executive Sean Song commented on the recent claims on fish farms off the coast of China.
Following the talks a reception and dinner was hosted by the Club for the attendees which provided an excellent opportunity for further discussion and social interaction.
