Lloyd’s Register and the UK P&I Club launch three new pocket checklist mobile apps.

Port State Control, Marine Fire Safety and Marine Pollution Protection pocket checklist apps are available to download now for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. 

LR and the UK P&I Club have released three new pocket checklist mobile apps to help owners and operators comply with international convention requirements and reduce the risk of port state controls detentions.

The Port State Control pocket checklist app identifies the most common causes of ship detention to reduce the risk of ships being detained. The Marine Fire Safety pocket checklist app includes a list of where deficiencies are most commonly found and certificates and documents that must be carried on board. The Marine Pollution Prevention pocket checklist app highlights the most common deficiencies listed by the MARPOL Annexes, to help ensure compliance.

The apps enable ships’ crews and their managers to view necessary legislative and regulatory requirements, save multiple checklists, check off completed activities, add essential notes/ images and send completed checklists via email.

LR and the UK P&I Club’s existing apps, ILO MLC and ISM & ISPS pocket checklists, have been hugely popular with more than 22,500 downloads. Both apps also featured in Marine Insight’s list of top 10 mobile apps for seafarers.

Robert Brindle, LR’s Lead Specialist on Port State Control says “The seafarers of today were calling out for a paperless solution that was portable and interactive. These apps allow us to update users when new legislation comes into force, helping to ensure they’re in compliance with the latest regulations. Their success only helps to reinforce LR as the highest performing Recognised Organisation in the Paris MOU region for the rolling three-year period 2011-2013.”

Karl Lumbers the UK Club’s Loss Prevention Director says “Over 20,000 downloads of the first two apps seems to indicate these type of apps are welcomed by the industry, we therefore hope by turning the remaining booklets into apps we will be able to distribute the advice further, make data collection easier and hopefully reduce the risk of our Members having claims”

LR has now produced six pocket checklists (five of which are now mobile apps) in a series that address regulatory compliance requirements which have been well received by the marine industry worldwide.
