UK Club hosts Risk Management Seminar in Turkey
Istanbul’s Moda Yacht Club, known as the Moda Deniz Kulübü event provided the picturesque for the UK P&I and Defence Clubs annual function for their Turkish Members and brokers on 5th September.
Over 80 guests attended the seminar to hear presentations on the Club’s work in Turkey and topical coverage of ballast water management and arbitration issues.
Thomas Miller P&I Chairman and Chief Executive, Hugo Wynn-Williams, provided an updated the audience on the UK Clubs' business profile in Turkey, highlighting its continuous role and presence in that community for sixty years and detailing the UK Club’s strong financial position.
Claims executive, Sumit Madhu, from London Syndicate 1 explained the challenges of the Ballast Water Management Convention and reviewed the various steps necessary to provide compliance and key issues such as cost, record keeping and survey and certification requirements.
Jim Roberts also of London Syndicate 1, offered some practical and legal advice on behalf of the UK Defence Club on the issues of London arbitration and whether there is a sensible alternative.
The seminar concluded out onto the roof terrace where our Members and their brokers enjoyed drinks and canapés with their hosts Hugo Wynn-Williams, Jim Binner, Sue Jamieson, Genevieve Holloway, Jim Roberts, Lance Hebert and Sumit Madhu and watched the sun set over the Bosporus.
