Trulli

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has published Marine Notice 7/2017 Guidance on ECDIS for Ships calling at Australian Ports.

With the requirement for all Officers of the Watch to be trained in the use of ECDIS having come into force at the beginning of 2017 with the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW. There has been a rise of checking of ECDIS use and understanding by PSC Authorities. As reported in LP Bulletin 1131 AMSA had detained 8 vessels with ECDIS deficiencies up until May this year. As such, they have now issued the attached Marine Notice to offer guidance for ECDIS equipped vessels entering their ports. Members should pay particular attention to the Port State Control Inspections paragraphs of the notice which summaries what Port State Control Inspectors will be looking for.
