Safety at Sea Awards 2017

Distinction in maritime safety and secure working practices were highlighted at the Safety at Sea Awards held last night at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Park Lane. Safety at Sea magazine is one of the leading publications for ships' crew with the goal to improve safety on board ships. As headline sponsors the UK P&I Club and TT Club representatives joined important industry figures at the function which also marked 50 years of Safety at Sea magazine.

The evening commenced with a networking reception and opening speech from the Club's Andrew J Taylor. Thirteen "Safety at Sea Awards" were also presented over the course of the evening. With categories including "Ship Operator of the Year", "Best Safety Product of the Year" and "Master of the Year"  it was clear the standards and safety initiatives displayed ensured the competition was high. Members of the judging panel, which included UK P&I Club Loss Prevention Director, Stuart Edmonston, had a tough job in deciding the ultimate winners and chose to add a category of "highly commended" alongside the ultimate winner of each section. All the nominees for the SAS Awards had exhibited the promotion safe and secure work practices within the Shipping Industry.
