POEA Governing Board Resolution No 14
WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 10022 authorizes the POEA Governing Board, after consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), to impose a ban on the deployment of Filipino migrant workers in pursuit of national interest or when public welfare so requires;
WHEREAS, on 30 June2014, the DFA has raised the Crisis Alert Level in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to Alert Level 2 (Restriction Phase) due to the spread of an extremely contagious disease, the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the said countries; and
WHEREAS, under Alert Level 2, processing and deployment of OFWs shall be allowed only for returning OFWs with existing employment contracts and effectively suspends the processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs.
Now, THEREFORE, the POEA Governing Board, in a meeting duly convened, RESOLVES AS lT lS HEREBY RESOLVED, to impose a temporary suspension on the processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs to Guinea, Liberia and Siena Leone, and allow the processing and deployment of vacationing/returning workers to the above-cited countries, subject to their compliance with documentation requirements.
Filipino workers in these countries are further advised to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation.
