Thomas Miller strengthens Greece operations - 23 September 2010

Daniel Evans has been appointed Thomas Miller's Regional Director for Greece. This strategic role will co-ordinate service and support for Greek Members of the UK P&I Club and UK Defence Club from the London and Piraeus offices. Daniel will continue his role as Club Manager for Thomas Miller Defence, managers of the UK Defence Club.

Having qualified as a solicitor in New Zealand and in the UK, he joined Thomas Miller in 1992 and has been heavily involved in the Greek market since. He was Area Director, based in Piraeus until 2003, playing a major role in expanding the activities of Thomas Miller (Hellas) and the UK Club's business among members based in Greece.

Paul Collier, an Underwriting Director with Thomas Miller P&I, has been appointed to lead the underwriting service for the UK P&I and UK Defence Clubs' Greek Members. Formerly a marine P&I broker, Paul has ten years' underwriting experience with Thomas Miller, focusing on both clubs' Greek and South American Members.

Mark Matthews has joined Thomas Miller P&I and will be working closely with claims staff in Piraeus and London. Mark has over 25 years' experience in maritime insurance broking and underwriting, gained in the P&I club sector.

Daniel Evans succeeds Nigel Brooks as Regional Director. Nigel will be leaving Thomas Miller after more than 20 years with the firm.

Thomas Miller has a team of 26 claims handlers and underwriters in Piraeus and London supporting Greek Members in both clubs. Rod Lingard has headed the Thomas Miller Hellas operation since 2009 while his predecessor, Philip Clacy, leads the London-based Syndicate 2, supporting Greek controlled tonnage whose Members prefer to manage their insurance affairs in London.

Greek controlled shipping accounts for about one quarter of the UK Club's total membership of 105 million gross tons. About half the UK Defence Club membership is Greek controlled.
