138 - 05/00 - Owners Now Liable For Port Dues Whilst Under Arrest - Nigeria

Trulli
Up until the10th May 2000 Port Dues in Nigeria have not been payable for the time during which a ship in port has been under arrest. A new decree has however now been issued by the Nigerian Government which reverses this position.

With effect from the 10th May, Port Dues are payable by all ships for all time in port, including time when the ship is under arrest. Members should be aware that this could lead to huge debts and obvious disputes between owners and charterers, possibly resulting in further delays to the ship.
