165 - 11/00 - Cargo Theft (Jet A1) - Conakry - Guinea

Trulli
The Club has recently been made aware of particularly dubious practices at the port of Conakry which it wishes to draw to the Members' attention.

In one instance during the discharge of a cargo of Jet AI, Gasoil and Mogas the crew noticed that watchmen and people in uniform were collecting cargo direct from the shore pipeline into drums. The crew were then subjected to persistent demands from port representatives for quantities of the cargo while during the night it was necessary to use fire hoses to keep the numerous boats demanding cargo at a distance as well as protecting the ship from unauthorised boardings by means of the gangway. To add to the master's concerns over safety and pollution, on completion of discharge, the ship was accused of the illegal transfer of fuel
