As of 1^st July 2003 all ships constructed before 1^st July 1998 must comply with regulation II-2/15.2.11 of SOLAS.This requirement has been in force for new buildings since 1^st July 1998 and states that all oil fuel piping shall be screened or otherwise suitably protected to avoid, as far as practicable, oil spray or oil leakages onto hot surfaces or into machinery intakes.We advise all Members to ensure that their operational and chartering departments are aware of this and have read Msc/Circ.1083, unified interpretation of SOLAS regulation II0-2/15.2.11.Source of information:  www.imo.org
