498 - 12/06 - New Customs Regulations for Timber - Egypt

Trulli
Egypt has now joined the list of countries implementing phytosanitary requirements on wood packaging, and the restrictions are being strictly enforced by Egyptian customs. Any wood used in the packaging of goods must be fumigated and stamped.
  • Ordinary consumable wood, not manufactured (wooden pallets, etc)

Wooden pallets must be stamped with the seal of Food and Feed organization "wheat ear seal", which is the standard calibration applied in Europe.

  • Manufactured wood (plywood, veneer, etc)

The "wheat ear seal' is not required as the wood is normally steamed during the manufacturing process in the country of origin.

  • Shipments of raw wood: wooden planks (beachwood, white wood, etc)

Such shipments must be accompanied with a certificate from the country of origin indicating that the wood has been steamed according to International standards.

Any shipment coming in wooden packing and not fumigated, even transit shipments, will be returned to the shipper.
