635 - 5/09 - CIC Campaign - Lifesaving Appliances - Europe/Asia

Trulli

The Association would like to draw the attention of its members towards the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) which will be carried out for a three month period between the 1st of September and the 30th of November by both the Paris and Tokyo Memorandums of Understanding.

Following a number of past collaborations, the Paris and Tokyo Memoranda will again launch a joint CIC, this time targeting the enforcement of SOLAS Chapter III - Lifesaving appliances and arrangements. The campaign will last for three months and will primarily target lifeboat launching arrangements, maintenance records, familiarisation and associated documentation.

Members are reminded to make sure that they are prepared for the campaign and that ships are notified of added emphasis on lifeboat launching arrangements. Each ship selected for a PSC inspection will receive the additional lifeboat inspection, it is reported that around 10,000 ships will be inspected during the three month period.

A document containing the questionnaire used by the inspectors for the campaign will be available in August from the Paris and Tokyo websites; this will give a clearer indication of what is involved. Both organisations have indicated a willingness to work together in future on similar campaigns.
