The South American Port State Control association, Viña del mar, are following the lead set by the Tokyo and Paris MOUs and will be carrying out a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) into the compliance of SOLAS Chapter II/2 (construction - fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction)

ON FOREIGN MERCHANT VESSELS

Kindly be advised that as per attached Circular from the Navy's Department of Ports and Coasts, the Brazil, as a member country of the Viña del Mar Agreement, and using its naval inspectors stationed in our various ports, will carry out a new Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) between the Sept 1st and Nov 30th, 2012 on foreign merchant vessels calling the region during the aforementioned period, with emphasis on the safety of fire fighting system (FSS), for the purpose of ensuring compliance with SOLAS - Chapter II/2.

Aiming to avoid unnecessary fines or delays to vessels entered with the Club, please warn Members of the above
