887 - 05/13 - Advisory on Illegal Wildlife Trade - Singapore
The Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has released an advisory reminding all parties regarding the Endangered species Act (ESA), the penalties under it and recent cases of Seizure of illegal wildlife being transhipped.
The AVA has issued an advisory on illegal wildlife and trade (AV 16.01.004.0021) to shipping and logistics companies, declaring agents and freight forwarders to exercise prudence when accepting jobs from customers and companies, and adopt internal security measures to prevent themselves and their staff from being implicated in the smuggling of illegal wildlife.
The advisory follows a press release in January by the AVA regarding the seizure of 1.8 Tonnes of ivory in Singapore and details the penalties faced by the carious parties under the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act (ESA) and the costs faced by the implicated companies.
