1077 - 01/16 - Disruptions of Port Activities - Brazil
The Association has been advised of disruptions to port activities in Brazil.
UPDATE: On 26 January, after the publication of the article, the Association has been further advised that the Regional Federal Court have allowed the Tubarão Port Complex to resume operation. The Court, however, has ruled that, within 60 days, practices to avert or minimise emission of dust particles in the air and spill of residues into the sea of Victoria have to be implemented.
The Federal Police in the state of Espirito Santo has closed the port complex of Tubarão in Vitória.
All Vale (Shippers) terminals are inoperative, Pier 1/Pier 2 (iron ore), TPM (Coal), TPD 3/TPD 4 (grains and fertilizer).
However, the steel cargo Terminal at Praia Mole is working normally.
Further the state environmental board (CETESB) has, until further notice, closed the Caramuru grain terminal in Santos, which operates shed 38 Exporter corridor (see attached pdf file).
The terminal in Santos uses two ship loaders and loads soy beans, soy bean meal and maize in bulk. Loading from this terminal will, therefore, be seriously affected.
The closure until further notice is related to the investigation of environmental problems arising from the emission of atmospheric pollutants above the normal accepted levels.
