HYPROC Seminar Algeria
The UK Club were invited by Hyproc to provide a People's Claims and Loss Prevention seminar in Mostaganem, Algeria, at the Member's Training Centre.
The seminar was attended by over 60 shore based personnel, officers and Captains. The UK was represented by Tony Nicolson, George Devereese and Sarah Green. The Member's broker was also in attendance and was represented by Tom Richardson and Spencer Crane. After the Seminar, we had an opportunity to visit Hyproc's large bridge simulator, followed by a ship visit in Arzew the following day.

On Wednesday, 21st March representatives from across Thomas Miller namely, UKP&I, UKDC, TT Club, ITIC, Thomas Miller Specialty and Hellenic War Risks, hosted a workshop in Athens on Understanding the Maritime Cyber Threat, as it potentially cuts across all covers. It was also the platform to launch the new Risk Focus: Cyber - Considering threats in the maritime supply chain.
Shipowners’ concerns at increasing piracy in West Africa and the kidnap for ransom threat were addressed by the Association at their seminar co-hosted with UK P&I in Athens on 7 March. Key themes of loss prevention and response were discussed with invited industry experts.

As the years have progressed, so has technology. In the not so distant past, computers were a thing of luxury however they now deemed more of a necessity. We are becoming increasingly reliant on this assistance but should it be considered a friend or foe?
