An opportunity to study in London - The Robin Travis Scholarship 2011: Press release
A unique opportunity for young German transport professionals to work in the London market is presented this year in the shape of the Robin Travis scholarship.
The Robin Travis scholarship provides a three month paid internship for a motivated individual who is working in Germany and is currently employed in the shipping, transport or marine insurance sector.
The successful applicant will spend the first six weeks in the London head office of transport liability specialist Thomas Miller whose diverse activities include the management of the UK P&I Club, the TT Club and ITIC. A tailored programme of placements reflecting the business interests of the applicant, eg lawyers, surveyors or insurance brokers, will form the remainder of the time spent in London.
A lump sum of €5,500 to assist with living expenses is provided for the period.
The deadline for registering interest in this year's scholarship is the end of May. Full applications must be submitted by 14 June. These applications will require a curriculum vitae (CV), two commercial references and a covering letter from the applicant explaining why he or she should be considered for the award. A shortlist of applicants would then be interviewed in Hamburg in July.
Thomas Miller established the Robin Travis Scholarship programme in 1992 in memory of Robin Travis, a former Director of Thomas Miller who died suddenly and prematurely in 1991. He had a long association with the German Members of the transport clubs managed by Thomas Miller, correspondents and brokers. There have been 14 previous scholars, many of whom have gone on to achieve senior positions in the German transport industry.
